MISHICOT, WI (WTAQ- WLUK) – The Mishicot School District will not require face masks in its facilities despite an outbreak at its high school.
The district’s board did not approve a plan submitted by administration at its meeting Wednesday, meaning masks will continue to be optional at all three schools.
Mishicot High School delays a return to in-person classes by one week after transitioning to virtual learning due to a high number of ill students.
Students at the high school transitioned to virtual learning this week, with 28.5% of the student population out sick as of Tuesday.
Sixteen students tested positive for COVID-19.
The original plan was to have students return to the classroom Oct. 4, but that date was pushed back to Oct. 11.
School officials say the outbreak only affects the high school, and all other schools will continue with in-person learning.
