OCONTO, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — More COVID-19 cases in Oconto County are leading to more people in the hospital, local health officials say.
County health officer Debra Konitzer says between Sept. 8 and 22, there were 433 new cases. That was 60% more than the previous 14-day period. More than 1 in 3 of those new cases were in kids 19 and under.
As of Thursday, more people in the county went to the hospital for COVID-19 in September (19) than in July and August combined (17).
To slow the spread of the virus, health officials are asking people to:
- Get vaccinated
- Wear a mask while in public
- Stay home from work, school and other activities when sick and on quarantine
- Get tested
- Wash their hands often
- Cover their coughs and sneezes
- Stay physically distant
