SPARTA, WI (WSAU) — Wisconsin Representative Gwen Moore has requested a federal investigation into accusations of refugee mistreatment at Ft. McCoy.
Moore, alongside Minnesota’s Ilhan Omar, wrote a letter to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin saying their offices have fielded several complaints and concerns about conditions at the base.
The duo says some families have said they lack access to necessities.
Representatives of Ft. McCoy have acknowledged that conditions could be better, but say they have been getting a handle on the situation. The base is housing over 8,000 refugees that were removed from Afghanistan following the Taliban takeover of the government.
