KIEL, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — One Calumet County community is going to have a new company pick up garbage following delays in trash pickup.
The Kiel city council has ended its contract with Waste Management, effective at midnight Wednesday. The city is beginning a new contract with GFL Environmental, effective Thursday.
Residents are asked to keep their cans out, as GFL plans to collect garbage and recycling Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Regular service is set to resume on Monday.
Kiel is one of several Calumet County communities that saw delays in garbage pickup from Waste Management. The company blamed a labor shortage and difficulty finding drivers.
Last month, Waste Management’s representative told FOX 11 the company was offering several incentives for new employees from signing bonuses to even helping employees pay for their family’s college tuition.
