GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — A third COVID-19 vaccine shot is now available at Prevea Health for certain people who may be immunocompromised.
Prevea Health CEO Dr. Ashok Rai says that it’s only for those who are taking medicines or who have conditions that suppress their immune systems.
“I wouldn’t call it a ‘booster’, per se,” Rai said. “It’s really an extra dose that will allow them to get to a level of immunity that they didn’t get to with the first two shots.”
The third dose can be administered at least four weeks after the second shot of either the Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccines.
“It’s a very small percentage of the population, but we want them to have access to that dose as soon as possible,” Rai told WTAQ. “That’s why we rolled out what we did this week.”
Those who qualify make up only about 3% of the population. There is no additional shot available yet for those who have taken the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
