HILBERT, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The site of a former cheese factory in Hilbert will soon be redeveloped.
The village purchased the lot, which is located next to Hilbert Civic Park. The Bel Brands factory has been vacant since the mid-1990s. The buildings will be razed and prepped for commercial and retail development.
Village officials say the project is a collaborative effort.
“This project was a joint effort between the village and Bel Brands, as well as our consultant, Cedar Corporation, Calumet County and the Wisconsin Department of Administration. Without all the stakeholders working together on this project, there is no way it would have become a reality,” said village administrator clerk treasurer Dennis DuPrey.
The village received two grants that will pay for 100% of the project’s costs. It is estimated at $738,000.
