GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — On the stand this morning in the trial against James Prokopovitz was a private investigator who looked into the disappearance of James’ wife Victoria, who James is accused of killing.
A interview between the investigator and Prokopovitz was played for the jury in which the investigator asked Prokopovitz what he believes happened to Victoria.
“Do you think she hurt herself, is that what happened?” Private Investigator Larry Warwick asked James in the recording.
“I hate to say it, but yes, I think that was her intention when she left,” he responded.
“How would she have done it?”
“I don’t know.”
The recording revealed, however, that Prokopovitz did rule out some ways that Victoria may have harmed herself, saying he took close control of her medication and that she didn’t have enough to potentially overdose on. The defense has argued that it’s likely that Victoria, who had a history of mental illness, killed herself.
Victoria’s body has never been found.
“Why hasn’t she been found?” Warwick asked.
“That’s what I don’t understand either. How far could she have gotten?” Prokopovitz responded in the audio tape.
Also taking the stand on Tuesday were several members of the Brown County Sheriff’s Department and the daughter of Kathryn Friday, the woman with whom James was allegedly having an affair. Kathryn Friday passed away late last year before being sentenced for lying during a confidential John Doe hearing in the case.
Testimony will continue Wednesday.
