MARINETTE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Officials at Fincantieri Marinette Marine broke ground on another building Tuesday.
Building 34, as it’ll be known, will be used to construct the Navy’s new frigate-class ships, upon completion.
The building will be big enough to build up to two of those ships at a time.
Fincantieri Marinette Marine CEO Jan Allman calls this a big deal for the company and the region.
“This groundbreaking marks a significant moment in the history of Fincantieri Marinette Marine and our local community. In April 2020, the award for the FFG-62 put in motion an expansion plan that has changed the trajectory of our shipyard.”
Officials hope the building can be completed by the end of the year.
