GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — The vaccine rollout continues in northeast Wisconsin.
Prevea and HSHS St. Vincent healthcare workers are expected to all have their first shot of the COVID-19 vaccine by early next month.
“We’re giving it out as quickly as we can, as we get the supply,” Prevea CEO Dr. Ashok Rai said on WTAQ’s ‘The Morning News with Matt and Earl’ on Monday. “Our goal is to get all of our [front line] employees done here by the end of the first week in January.”
The employees have received the first dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, of which around 32,000 more doses will be allocated to the state of Wisconsin every week.
In addition, 100,000 doses of the newly-approved Moderna vaccine are expected to arrive in the state soon. It’s easier storage requirements are expected to make it easier to get vaccine out to more rural parts of the state.
“The biggest difference between the two is in how you store it. Moderna is a little easier,” Rai said. “You don’t have to do the deep freeze, so you can take it out to more areas, especially rural areas.”
Rai says it will still likely be mid-summer or even early next fall before COVID-19 vaccine is available to the general public.
