China’s top pig producer is Muyuan Foods. The company’s goal is to raise more hogs on one single site than any other company in the world. People were skeptical due to African Swine Fever (ASF) still being around in the country, but things are going pretty good. In September Muyuan Foods started taking care of pigs in one of the 21 buildings on site.
At full capacity, the company will have 84,000 sows in the buildings along with their offspring and produce 2.1 million pigs every year. To put this farm in perspective, it’s about 10 times the size of a typical hog farm in the United States. By the end of 2020, Muyuan Foods will have spent over $6 billion on farm.
