LITTLE CHUTE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – An area transportation company is helping those experiencing food insecurity.
Schneider is donating a 53-foot refrigerated trailer to Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin.
It can hold 80,000 pounds of food.
A lift unit on the trailer also makes it easier to load food pallets.
Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin President & CEO Patti Habeck tells FOX 11 the trailer will be used to transport fresh produce and frozen foods to meal pickup locations and food pantries.
Habeck says they’ve seen a huge increase in need this year.
“Just last week, we calculated we moved 800,000 pounds of food. That’s an incredible and extraordinary number that very much has to do with the pandemic. But it also has to do with the community recognizing the need and wanting to step up and help.”
Feeding America says the donation will also help it launch a new program with student truck drivers from Fox Valley Technical College.
