GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Come whatever may, and whoever comes away with the win on Election Day, Green Bay Police Commander Kevin Warych says they’re ready for anything that might happen before, during, or after the polls.
“If anything can be predicted, it can be prevented,” Warych told WTAQ. “We want to work with all of our community partners and all city staff to make sure election day goes smoothly.”
That means preparing for possible unrest. In major cities such as Chicago and Washington DC, property owners are boarding up ground-story windows, anticipating violence in the streets after polls close and results roll in.
“We’ve really been keeping an eye on [potential unrest] in 2020,” Warych said. “Regardless of the election, it’s something we keep a close eye on and constantly prepare for.”
Police monitor social media ahead of any possible disturbances.
The city has seen two riots that resulted in property damage during demonstrations over the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis and the shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha.
Police will be on hand throughout the election in an effort to keep voters safe from any attempts at voter intimidation.
