OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ) — There are less than 100 hours to go until election day and both President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden are making their last second pushes to secure votes.
Both men were in Wisconsin on Friday making a last-minute push to take a state which some, like UW Oshkosh Political Science Professor David Siemers, say is crucial to the 2020 race.
“Donald Trump is coming up to Michigan and Minnesota as well,” Siemers told WTAQ. “He understands that the three upper Midwest states are critical to his reelection chances.”
The race, Siemers says, is likely to be close regardless of which way it goes.
“It is not an election like Reagan in ’84 or Nixon in 1972,” said Siemers. “Those were forgone conclusions. This one isn’t.”
Siemers says if polls are to be believed, the current advantage goes to Biden, but Trump still has a narrow shot at victory.
“Think of it like rolling a die, if polls have been correct, if Trump rolls a one, he wins,” Siemers said. “That’s not nothing. That’s actually significant.”
Siemers says Trump faced similar odds back in 2016, but adds that his chances look worse on the whole this year than last election cycle.
WTAQ will have election night coverage starting at 8:00 Tuesday night.
