GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Trump Campaign announced Wednesday the president will hold a rally at Austin Straubel International Airport on Friday. The visit would be the president’s third visit to Wisconsin since Saturday. The event will begin at 2:30 p.m..
Democratic Presidential nominee Joe Biden will also be holding an event on Friday, but details on a time or location have not been announced. This would be Biden’s third visit to the state since being named the Democratic nominee in August.
Each side has been critical of the other — for the way they’re campaigning. President Trump has been hosting big rallies, while Joe Biden has been holding virtual events and small, in-person speeches.
While the Brown County Republican Party looks forward to President Trump’s upcoming visit…
“To have President Trump come just days before the election will certainly inspire the electorate, it will get people out to vote,” said Brown County Republican Party chairman James Fitzgerald.
Brown County Democrats are concerned, due to the rise of COVID-19 numbers and, the Trump campaign’s previous rallies during this pandemic.
“This super spreader event is exactly what it is,” Brown County Democratic Party officer Terry Lee tells FOX 11.
“It is horrible, it is irresponsible that President Trump is again holding another event here in Wisconsin.”
This is the second time President Trump is making a campaign stop in Austin Straubel airport in Ashwaubenon. The event will be outside and masks are highly encouraged.
Fitzgerald telling FOX 11 it’s personal choice for people to attend.
“Many of the schools are back and in play we’ve got kids going to school. Others; the kids are not going to school. Everyone will have to make the choice for themselves.”
Lee says there are safer ways to excite voters.
“It feels weird and different but nonetheless, we’ve provided opportunity for people to call and contact voters safely from their home.”
Brown County Public Health says it has not traced COVID-19 cases to campaign rallies.
But Claire Paprocki tells FOX 11 they’re just as risky as any other large gathering.
There’s risk to any gathering you just have to assess that level of risk depending what the function is. We do know people are going to choose to gather so if they do we ask that everyone is wearing a mask including the President.”
The health department also recommends distancing from people you don’t live with.
Doors open at 11:30 a.m. for the president’s rally on Friday.
