GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Formal charges have been filed against the driver accused of crashing into another vehicle and killing three people in Green Bay.
Abdi Ahmed, 22, is charged with three counts of second-degree reckless homicide.
On June 28, Ahmed is accused of driving his Dodge Charger more than 100 mph east on Lombardi Ave. before crashing into a westbound vehicle turning left.All three occupants of the vehicle died from their injuries.
They are: Jessie L. Saldana, 28, Sonia D. Gonzalez-Guillen, 27, and Sonia V. Gonzalez, 57.
According to the criminal complaint, when an officer first asked Ahmed how fast he was going before the crash, he said he was driving 35 mph.
In the criminal complaint, a download of the Dodge Charger’s ACM showed five seconds before the airbag was deployed, the vehicle was traveling 94 mph. At 1.2 seconds before the airbag was deployed, the Dodge Charger’s speed increased to 104 mph and 0.1 seconds before the air bag went off, the speed was 84 mph. The report also indicates the brake was applied at 1.1 seconds prior to the airbag deployment.
Green Bay Municipal Court records show Ahmed was cited for at least three different traffic violations since September, including disorderly conduct with a motor vehicle, zone and posted limits, and failure to obey sign or signal.
According to the criminal complaint, the most recent incident before the crash was eight days prior.
The complaint says on June 20, a driver reported Ahmed’s Charger driving 90 mph without lights on at 10 p.m. The caller said they were nearly hit by Ahmed and he was doing a burnout in a roundabout. Another caller also reported Ahmed swerving in between lanes and nearly hitting a guard rail at one point, the complaint reads.
Ahmed returns to court July 9.
